So here I am, on my second to last game on this wee project I set myself to do. Also very excited for this one cause I wanted play and after watching the devlog, made me want even more hahaha. This one is a collab between SquidGod and davemakes, and is a real cool vampire survivor type. A type of game that is very hit and miss with me, but this one even more because of the cool art and flow of it made me enjoy a lot!

I recommend truly watching that devlog, specially if like me you are into processes. But for this localization it was a real handy tool for me to understand the game, what was ahead and even their little story that was useful as a concept and very helpful for me for choice of words and translations. Was a great documentation to have.

Once again the font editor that Squid point me to was such a great tool for me to include the accentuated characters we use in BR Portuguese. And to make me worry less in general.

I did a first run of the game to familiarize with everything and to see how the weapons and upgrades act, to not only translate them based only on the text but also the functionality. Which is important to make some good choices. Especially later when I had to change a few things based on the max amount of characters that would fit.

Honestly so much fun playing, and my process was at first do a free translation of the code part to test it again and figure out what was breaking/overlapping/cuttingoff.

That lead me to some choices, like leaving lvl because of space (which also made leave xp as xp in the results cause wouldn't make sense translate one and not the other). Level it's something pretty common in gamers language in Brazil (even in spoken, we tend to say level) so I feel actually translating that really depends on the game and concept. In this case it didn't felt hindering or confusing. And it helped me with saving space. But yeah tweaking some things here and there to fit on the end screen and the in between levels as well, and to keep consistency with all the upgrades.

The first screen I did a bit of tweaking in the x and y positioning of the text in the code just to fit the Portuguese without having to resort to abbreviating or changing to much of the meanings. To me being able to do that, and knowing how to do that feels freeing and independent. It's really not something that mess with the game and just makes sure the localization fits well.

For the DIG image I had to change a little bit more than I wanted, it was the only thing that really made me unhappy, but to me was the only solution that I felt was the best.

Ah yes, for this one I decided not to add a translated title as a second title. It felt weird to be honest. As I also by choice decided to keep Core as Core since it was a name for the resource of the game, as they explain in the devlog. So would just feel weird to add a translation. I did had some ideas that I went into in the Brazilian notes, but doesn't make much sense to discuss them here in English.

And then one last round for a sanity check and have some last fun playing the game. The my only real debug was changing the amount of Cores in the data file from the playdate, so I could buy everything as I needed to see in game.

There was one little grammar mistake, that to be fare happens a lot and in my experience I've seen it being waived by devs and translators in AAA games. Which is the "1 enemies". As a personal choice I left it, because it's also like that in the source material, it eventually will be plural for every upgrade, and most importantly it really doesn't impede the understanding for the gaming. So aye, even knowing it was wrong and there could be a fix there (that in my opinion looks kinda meh, and is really just so the singular form concur grammatically) I let the mistake. I know, I am the worst lol.
