LOCALIZATION NOTES
So here it is, the fourth SquidGodDev game that I set myself to do the localization on my own. The last one of this first batch of games. It's been a huge learning process in both the beginning of my game dev journey and doing localization projects on my own. I'm very happy about the results so far and excited to keep going in this path.
Anyway, this game is mega fun! I'm personally am a sucker for sports game and already knew there were little bits of localization to do here that would give me a bit of creativeness silly jokes, mainly with the opponents names.
This one I barely needed to change things in the code directly, but I did dive in to be sure and to learn some of the processes they use for it! Very interesting personally and a lot of learning.
Great thing about this project was that in the itch.io page it had the credits for the fonts used so that made my life simpler.
So mainly was about redoing the images with the Portuguese text. Besides the playdate menu options.
The title screen I kept my standard of adding a subtitle that translates the title, and this one I spend a bit on time on to understand better sprite sheets and how to do/export the table and tools I could use for it, which I got some helpful tips from SquidGod's own playdate performance optimization video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGgFoeBv-L8&t=3088s).
Mine isn't ideal because it didn't turned out exactly the same so the movement is a bit different, but since I spent a lot of time on that and felt it was good enough for my purposes I wanted to move on on the project. Perhaps something I could redo if I go back for a polish. But defo included some image/sprite/animation related knowledge for my todo learning list. Same for the positioning, this one feels a bit weird but I think that was the best place I put on my tests. And again, good enough to move on with the localization.
The rest was fun to think of the texts and just altering the images I needed by checking in the code which .png was being used, where and when.
I definitely entertained myself with my own silly jokes, which helped to keep my mood. And then just made sure to test the game make sure everything was happening the way it should.
My little debug trick was basically altering all the opponents to only have 1 health to make my life easier and go through the whole game. Since is a fun game and by doing that was like super easy mode on, that was also a good mood boost to finalize the project.
Now this first batch is done, and as I said I'm pretty happy overall with what I've accomplished so far.
Can't wait to dive in the next games!
